Meslektaşımız akademisyen ve sendikacı Doç. Dr. Yonca Özdemir’in ODTÜ’de uğradığı haksız uygulama ile ilgili hem Türkiye’deki ilerici ve demokratik sendikalara hem de Avrupa’daki ve dünyadaki eğitim sendikalarını aynı çatı altında toplayan Eğitim Enternasyonali ile Avrupa Sendikalar Federasyonu Eğitim Komitesi’ne gönderdiğimiz ortak mektup:
Türkiye’de AKP hükümetinin, baskıcı ve otoriter bir tavırla toplumun temel hak ve özgürlüklerini kısıtladığına dair endişeler, Avrupa Komisyonu 2021 Türkiye Raporu’nda da belirtilmiştir.
Avrupa Komisyonu 2021 Türkiye Raporu’nda, Türkiye ve kuzey Kıbrıs tarafından imzalanan “iktisadi ve mali” protokolden ciddi bir endişe duyulduğu ifadesi de yer almıştır.
Bizler, Protokolü tek taraflı bir eylem olarak kabul etmekte ve Kıbrıs Türk Toplumu’nun onurunun, sağlığının, özgürlüğünün yok edilmesi ve ekonomik varlıklarının, din algısının, ulusal duygularının, dilinin, kültürünün, politik ve sosyal kurumlarının parçalanması olarak görmekteyiz. Bu durum Cenevre Sözleşmeleri’ne ve Roma Statüsü’ ne aykırıdır.
Tüm yukarıda bahsettiklerimizin ışığında AKP, aynı baskı ve otoriteyi adanın kuzeyine ihraç etmeye, toplumsal özgürlükleri sekteye uğratmaya çalışmaktadır.
Bir aktivist ve barış imzacısı olan, muhalif kimliğiyle ve Kıbrıs sorunuyla ilgili “federasyon” temelli görüşleriyle bilinen, KAMPÜS-SEN Başkanı Akademisyen Doç. Dr. Yonca Özdemir, 15 yıldır emek verdiği ODTÜ Kuzey Kıbrıs’taki görevinden “sözleşmesi yenilenmeyerek” uzaklaştırıldı.
Özellikle, bu kararla KAMPÜS-SEN’in hedef alındığı ve esas amacın hem sendikayı susturmak, hem de iş güvensizliği ortamı yaratarak tüm çalışanları korkutup sindirmek olduğu açıktır.
Bu kararın merkezi Ankara ODTÜ Rektörlüğü’dür. ODTÜ’nün itibarının zedelenmesine yol açan bu tip kararlar alması hem çok üzücüdür, hem de örgütlü yaşam adına
adaletsizdir. ODTÜ’nün bu hukuksuz kararında izlediği yolu benimsemediğimiz gibi, bu yargısız infazı uluslararası kurumlara da taşıyacağız.
Bizler, eşitlik, demokrasi, özgürlük, insan hakları ve emek mücadelesi veren örgütler ile dayanışma içinde olduk ve olmaya devam edeceğiz.
Bu anlamda sizin aracılığınızla tüm ODTÜ bileşenlerini, akademisyen arkadaşlarımızı ve Türkiye’deki sivil toplum örgütlerini dayanışmaya davet ederiz.

Call for Solidarity for Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yonca Özdemir
Concerns regarding AKP government’s oppressive and authoritarian policies which bring the restriction of the fundamental rights and freedoms of people living in Turkey have also been expressed in the European Commission’s 2021 Turkey Report.
In the European Commission’s 2021 Turkey Report, it was also stated that there is a serious concern regarding the “economic and financial” protocol signed between Turkey and northern Cyprus.
We consider this Protocol as a unilateral action. Further to that, we interpret it as the annihilation of the dignity, health and freedom of the Turkish Cypriot Community and the fragmentation of their economic assets, perception of religion, national feelings, language, culture and also political and social institutions. This attempt is contrary to the Geneva Conventions and the Rome Statute.
In the light of these recent developments, it is very obvious that AKP puts aggressive efforts to establish the similar oppression and the authority and to restrict the fundamental rights and freedoms in the north part of Cyprus as he’s done in Turkey.
Recently, Associate. Prof. Dr. Yonca Özdemir, who is also President of KAMPÜS-SEN – an education union organized in Middle East Technical University (METU) Northern Cyprus Campus – is dismissed by METU where she worked for 15 years as an academic.
Dr. Yonca Özdemir is an activist and one of the academics who signed the “Academics for Peace Declaration” and also she is known for her Federation based views on the Cyprus Problem.
It is clear that with this decision, KAMPÜS-SEN was targeted and the main purpose was to both silence the union and frighten and intimidate all employees by creating an atmosphere of job insecurity.
METU Rectorate in Ankara is the main actor of this decision. It’s unfortunate that METU takes such decisions which damage their reputation and unfairly undermine the unionization and collective struggle in the society. As we can not adopt the path followed by METU in this unlawful decision, we decided to carry this extrajudicial execution to international institutions.
We have always been in solidarity with organizations and people who are fighting for equality, democracy, freedom, human rights and labor and we will continue to do so.
In this sense, through you, we call upon all organizations, trade unions and teachers to condemn this unfair act of METU and other institutions which also adopt similar methods to damage the dignity of educators and unionists across the world.
